Revenue Accounting Manager

Acre is helping in the search for an experienced and analytical Revenue Manager to oversee revenue accounting, billing operations, accounts receivable, and revenue reporting across our growing portfolio. This role will be responsible for ensuring accurate revenue recognition, maintaining compliance with accounting standards, and providing actionable insights into revenue performance and trends.

 

The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of revenue accounting principles, experience managing complex revenue streams, and the ability to partner cross-functionally with Accounting, FP&A, Operations, Asset Management, and external stakeholders. This position reports to the Director of Revenue and plays a key role in ensuring the integrity of revenue-related financial data and processes.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Revenue Accounting & Recognition

 

  • Manage monthly revenue accounting activities and ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and ASC 606.
  • Review and approve revenue journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Ensure accurate recognition of subscription, utility, and contractual revenue streams.
  • Analyze complex revenue transactions and determine appropriate accounting treatment.
  • Maintain and enhance revenue accounting policies and procedures.

 

Revenue Operations & Billing

 

  • Oversee billing processes and revenue-related operational workflows.
  • Monitor billing accuracy and investigate discrepancies, variances, and revenue leakage.
  • Partner with third-party service providers and internal stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate billing.
  • Develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) related to revenue, billing, collections, and customer performance.

 

Financial Reporting & Analysis

 

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue reporting packages.
  • Analyze revenue trends, variances, and operational drivers impacting financial performance.
  • Support forecasting and budgeting activities through partnership with FP&A.
  • Provide management with meaningful insights regarding revenue performance and opportunities for improvement.

 

Accounts Receivable & Collections

 

  • Oversee accounts receivable processes, including cash application, collections tracking, and aging analysis.
  • Review delinquency trends and support collection strategies.
  • Manage bad debt reserves and allowance for doubtful accounts.
  • Ensure timely resolution of customer billing disputes and collection issues.

 

Process Improvement & Systems

 

  • Identify opportunities to automate revenue accounting and billing processes.
  • Lead initiatives to improve reporting, controls, and data quality.
  • Partner with IT and business teams to implement system enhancements and process improvements.
  • Support ERP implementations, upgrades, and revenue-related system projects.

 

Internal Controls & Compliance

 

  • Maintain effective internal controls over revenue recognition, billing, and accounts receivable processes.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation and responding to inquiries.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with SOX compliance activities, where applicable.

 

Team Leadership

 

  • Mentor and develop accounting and revenue operations team members, as applicable.
  • Provide guidance on revenue-related accounting issues and best practices.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in revenue accounting, revenue operations, accounts receivable, or related accounting functions.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and revenue recognition principles (ASC 606).
  • Experience managing complex billing and revenue processes.
  • Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
  • Experience in renewable energy, community solar, utilities, infrastructure, or subscription-based businesses.
  • Experience with Power BI, SQL, or other data analytics tools.
  • Experience managing third-party billing providers or revenue service organizations.
  • Experience with multi-entity accounting structures and consolidations.
  • Familiarity with SOX controls and audit requirements.
