Director of Accounting

Confidential Client

Acre is partnering with a leading, high-growth energy and infrastructure platform to appoint a Director of Accounting / Assistant Controller. This is a rare opportunity for an accomplished accounting leader to shape a scalable finance function at a business operating at the forefront of the energy transition.

The business is growing through new development, complex financing structures, strategic initiatives and organizational evolution. As a result, this role will offer far more than stewardship of the close process: it will sit at the center of financial decision-making, systems transformation, technical accounting and business growth.

You will lead a talented accounting team, act as a trusted partner to senior leadership and help build the processes, controls and reporting capability needed for the next phase of the company’s journey.

The opportunity

Reporting into senior finance leadership, the Director of Accounting / Assistant Controller will take ownership of corporate accounting, consolidation, financial reporting, technical accounting and internal controls across a complex multi-entity organization.

You will be a key member of the finance leadership team, working closely with FP&A, Tax, Treasury, Legal, Operations and executive stakeholders. The role will have meaningful exposure to financing activity, acquisitions, strategic transactions and the continued evolution of the organization’s legal-entity and operational structure.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys combining technical accounting depth with practical leadership: strengthening the fundamentals, improving how the function operates, developing a high-performing team and enabling a fast-moving business to grow with confidence.

What you will do

  • Lead, mentor and develop the accounting team, creating a high-performing, accountable and collaborative function.
  • Own the monthly, quarterly and annual close process, ensuring timely, accurate and high-quality outputs.
  • Oversee the preparation of consolidated financial statements across a complex legal-entity structure, including special purpose entities, joint ventures, partnerships and holding companies.
  • Maintain balance-sheet integrity, oversee account reconciliations and ensure accounting issues are resolved promptly and robustly.
  • Lead technical-accounting analysis and documentation for complex transactions, emerging issues and new accounting standards.
  • Provide guidance across revenue recognition, leases, derivatives, debt, business combinations, equity transactions and consolidation matters.
  • Support the accounting implications of M&A, financing transactions, restructurings, divestitures and new business initiatives.
  • Partner with Tax, Treasury, Legal and FP&A on complex commercial structures, strategic transactions and reporting requirements.
  • Lead and coordinate external audit activity, maintain audit readiness and support a strong internal-control environment.
  • Design, implement and improve accounting policies, processes, controls and reporting practices as the organization scales.
  • Partner with the PMO and finance stakeholders on an ERP transformation, including SAP implementation, optimization and reporting-tool enhancement.
  • Prepare financial reporting packages for leadership, investors, lenders and the Board.

What we are looking for

We are looking for a commercially minded accounting leader with the technical depth, operational credibility and communication skills to thrive in a complex, growth-oriented environment.

  • CPA qualification is essential, alongside a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
  • 15+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least five years in a people-leadership capacity.
  • A blend of public accounting and industry experience is strongly preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of US GAAP, financial reporting, consolidations and complex multi-entity structures; IFRS experience is also valuable.
  • Demonstrable experience preparing or overseeing consolidated financial statements, including intercompany accounting, eliminations, joint ventures, partnerships and special purpose entities.
  • Strong technical accounting experience, including exposure to relevant areas such as ASC 805, ASC 606, ASC 815, ASC 842, ASC 840 and ASC 410.
  • Experience supporting external audits, SOX compliance, internal controls and audit remediation.
  • Exposure to M&A, purchase accounting, transaction support and accounting integration is highly desirable.
  • Advanced ERP and financial-reporting systems experience. SAP experience is particularly valuable, alongside exposure to platforms such as OneStream, HFM, BlackLine, Workiva, Oracle or NetSuite.
  • A practical record of improving processes, strengthening controls and helping finance teams operate more efficiently at scale.

Particularly relevant experience

Candidates from renewable energy, power generation, infrastructure, project-finance or other asset-heavy industries will be especially well suited to this position.

Experience with partnership accounting, tax-equity structures, special purpose entities and HLBV accounting for structured tax partnerships will be highly advantageous. The business is seeking someone who can bring confidence and judgment to complex accounting questions while remaining close to operational delivery.

Why join?

This is a chance to take on a genuinely influential finance leadership role within a purpose-led business helping to build the next generation of energy infrastructure.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Lead a visible and critical accounting function through an important period of growth and transformation.
  • Work on sophisticated corporate, financing and project-level structures.
  • Influence how systems, controls, reporting and teams are built for scale.
  • Partner directly with senior leaders on strategic initiatives, acquisitions and commercial decisions.
  • Join an organization where finance is viewed as a strategic enabler of growth, not simply a reporting function.
  • Build a lasting career in a business operating in one of the most dynamic areas of the global energy transition.

Apply

If you are a technically excellent, commercially curious accounting leader who enjoys building teams, solving complex problems and enabling ambitious growth, Acre would be pleased to hear from you.

We are committed to creating an inclusive recruitment process and welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds.
